Gather all your alarms with Argus 2.0 – Meet us at TNC and find out how to simplify your NOC

Argus is a powerful tool designed to aggregate incidents from multiple monitoring systems into a single, unified interface. Built using open-source software from our community, this dashboard enhances network monitoring and incident management.

Development of Argus was initiated at Sikt in 2019 as they needed a better means of managing all alarms from CNaaS and other services at their NOC. This last year, GÉANT and Sikt have joined forces and have – ready for TNC – reached a significant milestone with Argus 2.0. The goals of the new version are to make Argus easier to install, the frontend more customizable to different processes in different NOCs, and to ease development for small teams by creating an HTMx-backed PWA (progressive web app) instead of a API+REACT-based SPA (single page application).

Find out how GÉANT has benefited from ARGUS to help monitor the GÉANT Network.

The GEANT Operations Centre has recently transitioned to a customised instance of the ARGUS dashboard GUI, tailored specifically for GEANT. This new interface integrates the core backend alarm logic from our previous in-house solution, ensuring continuity while unlocking powerful new capabilities.
This upgrade represents a major step forward in modernising how we monitor and manage the GEANT network. Our legacy GUI, while reliable, had become increasingly constrained by its age and limited development flexibility.
With GEANT-ARGUS, we’re already seeing meaningful improvements, including:

  • Dynamic Filtering: Real-time alarm searches can now be performed directly within the dashboard, significantly streamlining diagnostics and response times.
  • Intelligent Alarm Transitions: We’ve introduced logic-based transitions for specific network conditions. For instance, if an alert partially clears but some sub-alarms remain active, the system now transitions the status to STUCK—providing clearer visibility into unresolved issues.

These enhancements are just the beginning. GEANT-ARGUS provides a flexible, scalable, and more maintainable codebase, paving the way for faster development cycles and future innovations in network monitoring.
